We understand that seeking care for chronic pain can feel overwhelming, especially if you've seen multiple providers or gone without answers for a long time. Our goal is to make your first visit as comfortable, informative, and productive as possible.
Before Your Appointment
After scheduling, you will receive an invitation to complete your new patient intake through our secure athenahealth patient portal. Please complete your forms before your appointment, including your health history, current medications, pain history, and previous treatment information.
Having this information in advance allows your provider to spend more time evaluating your condition and discussing treatment options.
Please Bring
- Prior imaging (X-rays, MRI, or CT scans) related to your jaw, face, head, or neck
- Records or notes from previous providers
- A current list of medications, including supplements
- Any night guards, oral appliances, or sleep devices you have previously been prescribed
Your First Visit
Your initial appointment is a comprehensive evaluation. Your provider will review your medical and pain history, perform a detailed examination of your jaw joints, muscles, bite, and related structures, and determine whether additional diagnostic imaging is appropriate.
When indicated, imaging may be completed using our in-office cone beam CT (CBCT) technology or through an outside imaging provider.
Plan Approximately 60 Minutes
Your first appointment typically lasts about one hour to allow sufficient time for a thorough evaluation, accurate diagnosis, and development of an individualized treatment plan.
After Your Visit
Before you leave, your provider will review your diagnosis, explain their findings, and discuss recommended treatment options. You'll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions and participate in treatment decisions.
Follow-up appointments, referrals, prescriptions, and additional recommendations will be clearly communicated both during your visit and through the patient portal.
What to Bring on the Day of Your Appointment

- Prior imaging if it has not already been sent electronically
- Any night guards or oral appliances currently in use
